There Are Still Good Kids In Las Vegas

Today, at our high school I teach at, we, or should say our students put on a dance for about 200 students with cognitive and multiple disabilities in the Clark County School District, Region 1.
Our student council organized the dance and put up decorations. The student DJ kept the kids dancing while the students in the Mariachi class got the gym rocking. The Marine Corp Junior ROTC helped set up, escort students from different schools from the bus to the gym, helped pass out food and helped clean up. The MCJROTC are a class act and a talented group of people as they have received several awards in different area JROTC competitions. Members of the photography class helped take and print free pictures of all the students. The cooking classes baked about 1000 pieces of bakery products and it tasted delicious. Even our mildly developmentally disabled students got into the act by helping set up and after the dance, clean up.
So, when people say that we have spoiled kids in this community, kids who are in trouble with the law, kids that don't care about other people and so on, that just isn't true. Our school is a Title One school. It is about 70% Hispanic, 20% black, 5% white and the rest Asian or Pacific Islander At our high school, the students in my class, who have severe multiple disabilities, are treated like gold. They are treated with respect by the other students and and are included in many activities. Even the toughest gang banger at our school will open the door and say hi to our students
I am very proud of all of our students at my high school and you cannot meet a nicer group of kids.

Nye County Sheriff Needs A New Webmaster

The Nye County (NV) Sheriff is mourning the loss of Deputy Ian Deutch. when you go to the Sheriff's web site, and click on supposed links to Deputy Deutch's funeral, viewing and memorial service on Thursday, you get a web about a murder suspect (illegal alien, as it turns out) who committed a murder in Pahrump in 2008, I believe. http://nyecountysheriff.net/
I know things are hectic over there, but Deputy Deutch deserves better than sharing a web page with a murderer.

National Enquirer Says Obama Cheating On Michelle: Truth Or Fiction?

From the National Enquirer: "PRESIDENT OBAMA has been caught in a shocking cheating scandal after being caught in a Washington, DC Hotel with a former campaign aide, sources say.And now, a hush-hush security video that shows everything could topple both Obama's presidency and marriage to Michelle!A confidential investigation has learned that Obama first became close to gorgeous 35 year-old VERA BAKER in 2004 when she worked tirelessly to get him elected to the US Senate, raising millions in campaign contributions. While Baker has insisted in the past that "nothing happened" between them, the ENQUIRER has learned that top anti-Obama operatives are offering more than $1 million to witnesses to reveal what they know about the alleged hush-hush affair." http://www.nationalenquirer.com/obama_cheating_scandal_vera_baker_video_/celebrity/68589C
Can this be true? Who knows, the Enquirer has been wrong at least as many time they have been right.
Can it be true? Of course, as Obama is a narcissist and with his huge ego, he, like many men. figures he is too big and too smart to be caught. See Tiger Woods.
Can this article be false? Of course. One would hope Obama would not be so stupid that he would cheat on his wife.
I sincerely hope this is not true and the Enquirer is just trying to hurt Obama. If it is true, the liberals will defend him to the fullest extent and saying it's no body's business. If it is not true, I am sure some conservatives will still try and use it.
We will see in the next few months I am sure, to see if it is true or not.

North Dakota: Saudia Arabia Of The U.S.?

According to the Minot Daily News, there are billions of barrels of oil under the ground in North Dakota. The study says that "almost 20 million barrels of oil appear to be in place within the Three Forks portion of the Bakken pool of which close to 2 billion barrels are expected to be produced." "According to the new study, "Together the assessments indicate that the Bakken pool contains 169 billion barrels of oil in place of which about 4 billion barrels will likely be produced." The results of the two studies are consistent with the results of several earlier studies which focused on the petroleum potential of the Bakken source system, the new study says.
As of the end of 2009, there were 181 horizontal wells drilled and completed in the Three Forks Formation and nine additional wells in which laterals were drilled into both the Three Forks and middle Bakken." http://www.minotdailynews.com/page/content.detail/id/538934.html?nav=5010

North Dakota is one of the few states that is thriving. It has low unemployment and low taxes. There is a housing shortages in cities like Williston because of the influx of workers.I used to live in North Dakota and this oil boom couldn't have happened to a nicer state. I hope they use their oil money wisely.

Another Round Of Tornadoes Hitting U.S.

As I write this, there are tornado warnings in Louisana, Arkanasa, Missouri, Missippi and Illinois. It's going to be a rocky night. I hope these areas stay safe and if you are in an area with tornado watches, beware and listen to the radio or watch TV.

Cute, Cuddly And Innocent Illegals Shoot AZ. Deputy

From the LV Sun: "Authorities in southern Arizona have found a deputy wounded in a shootout with suspected drug smugglers after a frantic hour-long desert search.
Pinal County sheriff's Lt. Tamatha Villar says the deputy suffered a superficial wound to his abdomen after being shot with an AK-47 assault rifle Friday afternoon. He was flown by helicopter to a hospital in Casa Grande, about 40 miles south of Phoenix.
Villar says the deputy was doing smuggling interdiction work and found bales of marijuana in the desert. He then encountered five suspected illegal immigrants, two armed with rifles, and was shot. "

Over the weekend, an illegal thug kills and sexually assaults a 14 year old girl. Today 5 illegals involved in drug running shoot an AZ. deputy sheriff with and assault weapon.
When will liberals learn that not all illegals are these innocent people who just want a new start in the United States.
I wish to say that liberals are killing this Country because they are not protecting the border, but some members of the GOP are also guilty, like George Bush and now Karl Rove.
It's time to protect the borders and get rid of all illegals who are arrested, use social services or are hospitalized with no insurance and have to depend on free care from the hospital or the government.

Illegal Alien Sexually Assualt and Murders 14 Year Old Girl

Channel 13 is reporting this morning that the thug that sexually assualted and killed a 14 year old girl this past weekend,
"A 19-year-old Las Vegas man arrested in connection with the death and alleged sexual assault of a teen girl told police he strangled her before dumping her body in a vacant lot in northeast Las Vegas, according to a Metro Police arrest report released today.
Juan Rivera was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on Monday on counts of murder, sexual assault and robbery in the death of 14-year-old Diana Soto, whose body was found by a passerby early Sunday in a lot near the intersection of Owens Avenue and Marion Drive."...Rivera told the investigating officers he had last seen Soto at about 11:30 p.m. Saturday, when she left her home to go to a friend’s house.
Rivera agreed to come to the Metro homicide bureau for questioning and to take a lie detector test, which he failed, police said.
In a follow up interview with police, Rivera said through a Spanish interpreter he had been with Soto on Saturday night, the report said.
He said that at 11:30 p.m., Soto asked him to drive her to a friend’s house. He said they left the Soto home in a brown van that belonged to the girl’s mother. While they waited in the van outside the friend’s house, Soto and Rivera began to argue, Rivera told investigators.
Rivera told police he was upset about decisions Soto was making in her life; Soto reacted by scratching Rivera on his throat and chest. He then became angry and grabbed the girl around the neck, strangling her, the report stated.
He said she scratched his face as he held her "'for a minute' until blood came from her nose and mouth and she no longer moved," the report said.
Rivera said he drove away. He told police he took Soto’s cell phone and sent various text messages to the girl’s friend to make him believe she was still coming over, the report said.
He told investigators he had to push her head over to keep her body from falling on him as he drove, the report said.
He said after he put her in the vacant parking lot, he drove back to the Soto home. He took the girl’s cell phone, broke it in half and threw it away in a neighbor’s trash can. He then went to sleep. http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2010/apr/28/police-man-accused-killing-teen-girl-said-he-stran/

This guy is scum and I wonder when the Sun will report this scum is an illgal.
And what will those dimwit liberals have to say about this case?

Faith Leaders In Kenosha WI. Have No Shame

From the jsonline: "Faith leaders from around the country joined in a vigil Thursday outside the Kenosha County Jail, which operates a federal detention center for immigrants, to pray for detainees and call on Congress to enact comprehensive immigration reform.
Organized by the faith-based social justice group the Gamaliel Foundation, the vigil was a prelude to a weekend of protests planned by religious and immigrant-rights groups around the country."

Apparently these moronic and idiotic leaders of "faith" apparently forgot that in 2007, an illegal immigrant shot and killed a Kenosha County Deputy. The illegal immigrant thug killed Deputy Sheriff Frank Fabiano on May 17, 2007, by U.W. Parkside.
here is Deputy Fabiano's Officer Down Memorial Page: http://www.odmp.org/officer/18883-deputy-sheriff-frank-fabiano-jr.
Will these supposed faith leaders pray for Deputy Fabiano? I somehow don't think so.

Las Vegas Sun Changes Comment Policy

Starting today, if you want to comment on a L.V Sun story, you have to have a facebook account, whatever that is.
The Sun claims there was too much meaness in the comment section. And granted, there was some of that from both sides- liberal and conservative. There was also some advertisements in some comments. But the Sun did a good job monitoring the comments. So, what was the real reason they changed the policy?
I believe that the Sun got tired of seeing conservatives take over the conversations and usually beat the liberal point of view. Further, I don't think the authors of articles appreciate people critiquing their articles because they are so-called professionals. Umm, no, most Sun writers are unprofessional liberal hacks who have no journalistic ethics. They insert their liberal opinions into the articles and they hate it when people call them on it.
I think this will backfire. I don't think the Sun will get as many visitors on their web site and since the Sun has pretty much given up on their print version, they need the Internet traffic to boost their advertisement rates. I don't think most people will sign up for Facebook just to comment on the Sun stories and they will lose customers.
Meanwhile the conservative LVRJ doesn't censor most comments on their web site and I think their readership will rise.
The LV Sun- Chicken Littles of the newspapers.

In Other News, My Daughter's Guinea Pig, Squirmy, Still Beats Harry Reid

Just about anyone running in the Republican primary is beating Harry Reid in the latest Rassmussen poll. From the LV Sun: "Rasmussen, a polling outfit that Democrats often accuse of leaning to the right, has Republican frontrunner Sue Lowden beating Reid 52-39; lawyer Danny Tarkanian up over Reid 51-41; and, former Assemblywoman Sharron Angle up 48-40; 53 percent say they favor repeal of the health care bill, a sentiment Reid's campaign is clearly trying to combat."
Of course the the Sunin their usual unethical behavior, claim that Rassmussen leans right. Look how they described the poll bought and paid for by the Daily Kos: In a Research 2000 poll commissioned by the liberal blog DailyKos, Reid is in better shape, trailing Lowden, Tarkanian and Angle by 4, 2 and 3, respectively. In the GOP primary, Lowden leads Tarkanian by 10.
Yep, nothing critical about the polling company.
The Las Vegas Sun. A newspaper with no shame or ethics.

Funeral Procession For Deputy Deutch

On Saturday, there will be the funeral procession for Deputy Ian Deutch. The procession leaves Parhump, goes down State Hwy 160, going west. The procession will then take 160 north and west until it hits Hwy 95, north of Indian Springs. Then procession will go through Indian Springs, past Creech AFB, through the Paiute Indian Reservation, past the 2 roads leading to Mount Charleston and enters the Las Vegas Valley. The procession will then exit on Craig Rd and then head west to Jones. At Jones, it will turn and head to Lone Mountain and then to Canyon Ridge Church, which is on Lone Mountain and Jones. The service starts at 9:30.
There was no mention of what will happen after the funeral.
I urge all people who can, take 10 minutes out your Saturday and stand somewhere on the procession route out of respect for the deputy, his family and law enforcement. I know I will.

Those Violent Tea Party Protestors

From Gatewaypundit: The SWAT Team was called in today at the Quincy Tea Party Rally. Obama was speaking at the Oakley-Lindsey/Quincy Community Center this afternoon.Unreal.

http://gatewaypundit.firstthings.com/2010/04/obama-big-sis-call-out-riot-police-on-tea-party-ladies/

Another case of mental illness of narcissism by Obama. He's just not that important to call out the riot police against a few middle aged women and men.

Someone Is Smoking Crack At Portfolio.Com

Portfolio.com came out with the 100 funnest cities in the United States. New York City comes in first and I can see that. But they rank Las Vegas 26th in the country. 26? Behind cities like Riverside, CA, just behind Milwaukee (I used to live in Milwaukee, there is no comparison, hell, there far more bowling alleys in Vegas than Milwaukee and a lot more entertainment) Detroit? Bridgeport,CT? Madison, WI? Well, it maybe fun if you are a binge drinker, but that's about it. Poughkeepsie? Where the hell is that?
Sorry, but whoever came up with that list is smoking something. Crack, pot, meth or whatever. In Las Vegas, you can see world class entertainment, sporting events, has family friendly activities, free entertainment, world class restaurants, great parks and it is fairly cheap to live or visit.
OK, we don't have a major league team, but you can go to any major casino and watch whatever sporting event you want on big screen tv's and have fun doing so.
So, my suggestion to the people at portfolio.com, go into rehab and come out with a clearer head, maybe you can come up with a better list.

All CCSD Schools Will Now Be 9 Month Schools

From the LVRJ: "Clark County School District officials announced Wednesday that all of the district's 76 year-round schools will revert to nine-month calendars beginning in the new school year that starts Aug. 30.
The move is expected to save the school district about $21 million and comes as a result of policy decisions made by the School Board." http://www.lvrj.com/news/schools-will-revert-to-nine-month-calendars-92364129.html

From a budgetary standpoint, this makes sense. From an educational stand point, I don't like the idea.
The reason we have 9 month schools probably dates back to the beginning schools in early U.S. history. The reason why we have 9 month schools is so the kids can help out on the family farm during the summer. It has been pretty much the standard throughout the history of the U.S. Well, in Vegas, there are not too many family farms. I can only think of two in the Valley- RC Farms, a pig farm in North Las Vegas. It's been on "Dirty Jobs". The other is Gilcrease Farms, which is a orchard in northwest Vegas. You can pick your own fruit and vegetables when the they are in season.
From an educational standpoint, I think if you went to school 6 weeks and take 3 weeks off, the child will retain knowledge learned easier. It also helps most families. Most families don't have 3 months off during the summer, especially in Las Vegas. So, child care issues may be easier to handle. And quite frankly, after a month off of school, most kids are bored silly and are at home, playing computer games or Wii or getting into trouble.
The downside for teachers is that some will lose money as some teachers sub for ill teachers and double dip. It is more difficult to take college courses if your school is on a 12 month schedule.
So, hats off to the school board for making this decision. No matter how they decided, they were going to make people mad. This will save money and save some teacher jobs.

Nye County Deputy Funeral Information

From the LVRJ: "The funeral for Ian Michael Deutch, the Nye County Sheriff's Office deputy who was shot and killed Monday in Pahrump, will be Saturday in Las Vegas.
The service will be at 9:30 a.m. at Canyon Ridge Christian Church, 6200 Lone Mountain Road, just west of Jones Boulevard, officials said. A public viewing for Deutch will be 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the Pahrump Family Mortuary, 5441 Vicki Ann Road.
A candlelight vigil will be Thursday at Terrible's Lakeside Casino & RV Park in Pahrump, the site where Deutch was shot.
Flower donations should be sent to the church, authorities said. A memorial fund has been established for Deutch at Nevada State Bank, account number 0258040427
."
http://www.lvrj.com/news/funeral-services-set-for-nye-county-deputy-92327319.html
I am not sure if there will be procession from Pahrump to the Church, but if there is, my guess it will go down State Hwy. 160 to the road that goes past Red Rock, to Charleston Ave. Then they would probably take the 215 to Lone Mountain and then Lone Mountain to the Church. This is just a guess, so please check back when more details emerge.

Democrats Want To Eliminate Nevada's Election Laws

Russ Feingold, a very liberal Democrat from Wisconsin has introduced federal legislation that will gut Nevada's election laws. From John Fund: "But Wisconsin Sen. Russ Feingold, a Democrat, has introduced federal legislation to mandate same-day registration in every state, claiming the system has worked well in his state. Sen. Chuck Schumer of New York is readying a bill to override the election laws of all 50 states and require universal voter registration—which would automatically register anyone on key government lists. This is a move guaranteed to create duplicate registrations, register some illegal aliens, and sow confusion." http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748704671904575193930226978178.html
So, the liberal Democrats want to require all 50 states to have same day registration of voters and take lists, like driver licences and other lists and automatically register voters, whether the person wants to be registered or not. In Nevada, I believe, you have to register 30 days before the election or you cannot vote. Feingold and other liberals want to change that.
But in Wisconsin, there has been several cases of voter fraud in the past several elections. But this is how liberals win some elections. Just ask Norm Coleman in Minnesota who was robbed by that village idiot, Al Franken.
So, does Harry Reid support this proposed legislation proposed by Feingold and Schumer? One thinks he does. He would love to have this law passed before November, as it may actually increase his vote total from 35 to about 50.
Beware Nevada. The Democrats know they are in trouble and they are desperate, especially Feingold, as he is danger of losing his Senate seat. Harry Reid knows he is trouble and so they will try and pass this horrible piece of legislation before November.
Have the Democrats have no shame?

AZ Immigration Law- What's The Problem? It's Already Happening Here In Las Vegas

The liberal dimwits, including Obama, most Democrats, including Harry Reid are all complaining about the new Arizona immigration law. They say it will lead to racial profiling- it won't. It will lead to unlawful stops. It won't Even some liberals will say it will lead us to become NAZI Germany. From the Las Vegas Sun, comment section: "Resembling Nazi Germany more everyday in the USA and another step closer to the ultimate goal of DNA data-basing every citizen.
YOU have the RIGHT to REMAIN SILENT -- even while being interrogated and/or tortured
."
http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2010/apr/27/racial-profiling-cheered-debate/
And while reading the article, you have admit that the authors of the article, are complete idiots. He puts his opinion into article and substituted his thoughts for Gov. Gibbons. He really is unprofessional as a writer and as a journalist.

But to all the liberals out there, we already have a plan in place in Las Vegas to identify illegals. If a person is arrested and brought to the Clark County jail, there are officers who are trained to identify illegals. They have been deputized by ICE and they can find out if an inmate is here in the country illegally and then report the inmate to ICE for possible deportation. I am sure some racial profiling goes on along with checking people with accents.
This is basically the same thing that is going on in Arizona.
Liberals, get over it.

Unbelievable Dunk

I wonder what kind of health and disability insurance the deer has. They also should put him in the All Star dunk contest.

Update On The Murder Of Two Deputies

The Nye County deputy sheriff who was murdered in cold blood has been identified as 27 year old Ian Deutch. From the LVRJ:
In Afghanistan, soldier Ian Michael Deutch survived nine months of enemy combat as a fire support specialist with Nevada's 221st Cavalry Wildhorse Squadron.
On the second day after his return to the Nye County Sheriff's Office, the 27-year-old deputy was shot and killed in the line of duty. He was shot five times -- once in the knee, once in the pelvic area, and three times in the upper chest. "It's horrible," said his mother, Suzy Deutch, speaking by phone from her Las Vegas home. "He was finally safe. In our country. And somebody here kills him."
Nye County Sheriff's Office identified the shooting suspect as 30-year-old James Chaffin...More than 100 friends, family and fellow soldiers were stationed outside of UMC Monday night awaiting updates on the fallen deputy's condition.
One of those was his brother, Nye County Sheriff's Deputy Richard Jason Deutch, who served alongside his sibling in Pahrump and Afghanistan -- one of nine sets of brothers who served together in Nevada's squadron.
Suzy Deutch said Richard wasn't involved in the casino shootout Monday because he hadn't yet returned to work.
"His brother is devastated," she said. "They'd been together as deputies and as soldiers."

http://www.lvrj.com/news/deputy-killed-in-pahrump-casino-shootout-identified-92208944.html
It's sad. In Afghanistan, the Taliban couldn't get him, but he is on duty only two days in Nye County and a thug kills him.
Here is his Officer Down Memorial Page: http://odmp.org/officer/20382-deputy-sheriff-ian-michael-deutch

In Vilas County, Wisconsin, that County is in mourning as they prepare to bury a deputy sheriff who was killed by a drunk driver. From the Wausau Daily Herald: Sheriff’s deputy Kory Dahlvig, 29, was responding to a call when a pick up truck with a manure box pulled from the side of the road into the path of the deputy’s squad car, according to a State Patrol news release. The squad car struck the rear of the truck.
Peontke, the driver of the truck, was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries, police said. Dahlvig was killed in the crash.
Peontke had a preliminary breath test of 0.19, more than twice the legal limit of 0.08 for driving, State Patrol Lt. Tim Carnahan said this morning .

Police officers have a very dangerous job. They may leave in the morning and never come home. It can happen anywhere- in the large city, medium sized cities like Pahrump or in beautiful tourist areas like Vilas County, Wisconsin. And it can happen in any country. Last week, seven police officers in Juarez, Mexico, were ambushed and killed by a drug cartel.
So, stay safe, officers and may you come home every night.

Update On Murdered Nye County Deputy

Last night, The Nye County Deputy who was killed in Pahrump was given a honor guard procession by the Las Vegas Metro motorcycle police to the coroner's office.

RIP, Deputy.

Pawn Stars Review: April 25-26, 2010

Well, tonight's episodes are reruns from last night. Apparently the History Channel is putting the new episodes on Sunday and repeat them on Monday. Found out the hard way last night. Funny thing, there was only 1 advertisement from Subway and no one ate a foot long . I guess last week was a one night stand. Somehow, in Las Vegas, that seems normal.
In the first episode, which is a repeat from last night, a young man brought in a Revolutionary War era bond from Massachusetts, from 1775. The bond was worth 5 pounds. They brought in the expert, Dana who determined it was real and he got $12,000 and a very good guitar. Did he get $12,000 in cash? The bond was printed by Paul Revere. Dana holds auctions for early American artifacts.
Just curious, what if the experts are wrong? Is the pawn shop responsible or the expert for the financial loss?
Then Rick and the Old Man went to a man's home to look at a 1965 Impala station wagon. the guy said it was a chick magnet. Umm, no. It turns out that he put in a bigger engine than the original and the air filter didn't fit. Not a good idea in Las Vegas, to run without an air filter- too much dust. So, it was a no sale. the guy then proceeded to do burn outs in the road, thereby pissing off the neighbors.
Then Cory and Rick went to a house for a 1946 Seeburg Jukebox. It looked ok from the outside, but the inside was in rough shape. They bought the jukebox for $400 and took it to Rick's for restoration. The restoration cost $3800 and the jukebox could sell for $6500. The sound quality was so-so.
The next guy brought in a replica 1909 fire engine which was made in 1981. It was more like a circus piece than a fire engine. It had an umbrella, horns and it is something you may find up in Baraboo, WI. at the Circus World Museum. There was no sale.
In the second episode, the first guy brought in a 1884 colt 45 revolver. Rick brought in an expert, another Rick, who said that it was an original, except for a small piece. They guy wanted $400 and then Rick offered $2000 and it was sold.
The next guy brought in a some presidential campaign buttons. They brought in Dana and within about 30 seconds showed that the pins were reproductibles and not original. The set came from the Kleenex Company. Hopefully Dana gets expense money for these visits, especially this visit.
Lately, the guys said the Old Man takes nap on the job. The Old Man says he is just resting his eyes. Chumlee says he also takes naps at work. Well, it turns out Chumlee supposedly takes his naps in the parking lot. Sleeping in downtown Las Vegas, on Las Vegas Blvd and close to the back alley is not the smartest thing to do. Can you say mugged or murdered?
The next guy brought in an espresso machine. The guy got $1400 for the machine and grinder. Chumlee made the Old Man some coffee and the Old Man Loved it. That's probably the first time the Old Man gave Chumlee a compliment.
The last guy brought in a antique spinning wheel. The man said his grandmother had it and it was gathering dust. Unfortunately, it turned out that the spinning wheel was for show so there was no sale.
Thus ends another night of Pawn Stars. Remember that Pawn Stars are now on Sundays with repeats on Monday.

Sometimes The Bull Wins

Jose Tomas, matador from Spain was in Mexico for a bull fight. Well, things didn't go so good and Tomas got gored in the groin and lost about 17 pints of blood. He underwent surgery at the bullring and didn't even get anesthesia. The bull came out alive but no word on his future fate.

Democrats Laugh And Play While Nevada Burns

Nevada Democrats have been having a good laugh and expending lot's of energy trying to embarrass Sue Lowden regarding her comments about barting for medical care. Her stance is that if you don't have medical insurance, you may be able to barter with the doctor or hospital with goods, services or money for reduced or free costs. Many media outlets in Las Vegas, notably the LVRJ and Channel 13, among others, have shown that bartering does happen, no matter what the liberals say.
So, the Democrats bring chickens and goats to Lowden's offices and make fun of her. Blogs have written and the Las Vegas Sun has had a fun time with this. http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2010/apr/26/democrats-game-chicken-hits-snags/
Meanwhile, unemployment is around 13+% in Clark County and Nevada. People are continuing to lose jobs. People are losing their houses. More and more people are seeking government services, including WIC and food stamps. Illegal immigration is costing local governments millions. Governments are laying off people. Gas and food prices are rising. And the Democrats play games. Hahaha laugh the Democrats while Democrats fiddle while Nevada burns.
My one suggestion regarding the farm animals. Donate them to the local food banks or soup kitchens so people can have fresh meat.

Comedy Group (College Professors) Endorse Rory Reid

From The Las Vegas Sun: "The Nevada Faculty Alliance, representing about 650 members at the state’s eight higher education institutions, confirmed today it is endorsing Democrat Rory Reid for governor."
Now for the comedy: "County Commission Chairman Reid “has done his research on the budget up to this point, and the major issues on the top of our list for the 2011 legislative session,” said Sondra Cosgrove, a history professor at the College of Southern Nevada and president of the campus’ NFA chapter. “Most of the people we talk to know quite a bit about what’s happening in K-12, but then we have to provide them with quite a bit of information about higher ed.” http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2010/apr/26/higher-education-group-endorse-rory-reid-governor/
Rory Reid has been eerily silent on the Nevada State budget crisis. During the special session, Rory could not be found. Even the Sun has noted his silence and they are his campaign spokesperson.
Considering this is a liberal group, it comes as no surprise that they endorsed Reid and I have no problem with that. Most professors really don't have a clue what a real job is and are clueless about how most people live and work. Case in point, Dina Titus, a woman who has never had a real job in her life.
Those who can't, teach (with a few exceptions in which I am included) and those who can't teach, teach teachers. Those are the professors.

Bad Day For Police Officers

In Pahrump, a Nye County Deputy Sheriff was shot multiple times in a shootout with a thug at the Terrible's Lakeside Casino. the thug was killed. The deputy was airlifted to UMC and has undergone surgery and he is in critical condition. While the officer was wearing a bullet proof vest, it didn't help as the thug was using an SKS rifle. The deputy just returned from a tour in Afghanistan last month. http://www.lvrj.com/news/gunman-killed--deputy-wounded-in-pahrump-shootout-92143529.html
In Wisconsin, a Vilas County Deputy was killed by a drunk driver while the deputy was responding to a call. From The Rhinelander Daily News: According to the Vilas County Sheriff's Department, Deputy Kory E. Dahlvig, 29, was killed when his squad car collided with a dump truck that had pulled onto the roadway in front of him.
The accident happened at approximately 8:38 p.m. Sunday on Highway 47, north of East Boundary Trail.According to the Wisconsin State Patrol, Dahlvig was responding to a call to assist Lac du Flambeau Tribal Police when the accident occurred. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the dump truck, James Andrew Peontke, 49, of Lac du Flambeau, was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. Police officers have a dangerous job. Please keep these officers, their families and their departments in your prayers.

Beware Of Traffic Enforcement On The 95

The last two afternoons, Henderson police has been conducting traffic enforcement on the 95 by Galleria, Sunset and Russell roads, especially on the north bound lanes.
Today, the motorcycle cops had 6 drivers pulled over at the same time and yesterday was the same situation.
Beware.

Why Do Liberals Hate Society's Most Vulnerable People?

For some reason, liberals seem to hate society's most vulnerable citizens, people with developmental disabilities. Some blogs I read on a regular basis has shown the hate of these people that they feel they can make fun of or use as comedy props, people with mental retardation.

The Las Vegas Gleaner, a progressive blog which criticizes both liberal and conservatives recently had this post about Steve Wynn and a possible move to China. The post was snarky but became hateful in the last 2 sentences: "Or as Wynn might say, Macau is not trying to "retard" the economy.
One question, though: "Why does the cranky old fart, er, magnificent gaming industry genius, have to keep hating on Trig?" http://www.lasvegasgleaner.com/las_vegas_gleaner/2010/04/beloved-industry-titan-to-america-get-off-my-lawn.html#comments

Gleaner was looking for a quick laugh and used Trig Palin, an infant with Down Syndrome, as his foil.

President compared his bowling and his joking about Special Olympians when he compared his bowling and Special Olympians: "Appearing on “The Tonight Show,” the president told host Jay Leno he’d been practicing at the White House’s bowling alley but wasn’t happy with his score of 129. The he rolled a gutter ball by quipping: “It was like the Special Olympics or something.” http://scaredmonkeys.com/2009/07/26/democrats-and-the-r-word-obama-special-olympics-comment-retarded-term-in-house-health-care-bill-and-teaching-moments-does-any-one-ever-learn/

Rahm Emmanuel called liberal activists "Retarded": http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2010/02/rahm-apologizes-for-privately-calling-liberal-activists-retarded.html

Stephen Colbert calls Sarah Palin a "fu...ing Retard" http://liberalconspiracy.org/2010/02/09/watch-colbert-calls-palin-a-fcking-retard/

The Family Guy cartoon show on Fox had an episode in which they used a Down Syndrome girls as a comedic foil: "Early this morning, Fox News contributor Sarah Palin blasted Fox Hollywood for the recent Family Guy episode that took a pretty hard-to-miss jab at her special needs son, Trig Palin (Family Guy son Chris Griffin was dating a girl with Down’s Syndrome…whose mother was the former governor of Alaska). Calling it “another kick in the gut” — a reference to Rahm Emanuel’s use of the word “retarded” " http://www.mediaite.com/online/sarah-palin-family-guy-trig-bristol/

In an interview with Bill Maher, Seth McFarlane implied that President Bush was retarded and Maher found no problem using the word "retarded". http://newsbusters.org/blogs/noel-sheppard/2010/02/20/family-guy-creator-seth-macfarlane-calls-george-w-bush-retarded

Now, I will also say that some conservatives misuse the word retarded and the one who comes to mind is Rush Limbaugh.

So, my question is this: why do certain liberals hate the developmentally disabled, people with Down Syndrome and people with disabilities?

Las Vegas Ski Resort Open Until May 2nd

Since we were up in Mount Charleston, we went to the ski hill that is on the opposite side of Mount Charleston. We were surprised to see the ski resort still open as the front desk at the Mount Charleston Lodge said the ski hill was closed.
I used to be a skier when I was young and didn't care if I got hurt. Now, being older, wiser and less coordinated, I just like to watch skiing on TV.
But we went to the ski hill and found out that the hill will stay open one more week and they have received about 18 feet of snow this season. I'm not sure if this includes artificail snow or not.
But they also offer to take non-skiers to the top of the highest ski hill for a sight seeing tour for $10 a pop and we did this today and those are the pictures above. It was worth the cost.
So, if you are in vegas, go on out to the Las vegas Ski hill in Mount Charleston and ski or sight see. It's a nice way to spend time with the family.

Apartment Diaster

It's been a horrendous week at our apartment and our apartment building.
For the past month, whenever we drained the tub or flushed the toilet, it was literally a crap shoot if the drainage worked. The apartment maintenance workers worked for a week snaking the different pipes and trying to solve the problem. After working without success, the decided to bring in a plumber and they went to work on the problem. They barged into our apartment without asking permission to enter and used some kind of radar device and found out there was a broken line underneath our daughter's bedroom. In Las Vegas, basements are almost unheard of and this is true with our apartment complex. So, to get to the pipe, I had to clear out my daughter's room and they ripped up the carpet the first afternoon. The second day, they brought in the jack hammers and shovels to dig to the pipe and clear it out The apartment people said the work would be done by 11:00 the next day. So, when I get home the next day after work, they had just finished replacing the pipe and were filling in the hole, continuing to use our electricity. Later, they laid the concrete and put plywood and the rug over the wet cement with a promise that they would be back on Monday to remove the plywood.
Cathy, my wonderful wife had to spend 3 days at her friend's house because of the repairs, while I stayed at home at night. On Friday, when the kids came back from their mom's house, the house wreaked of wet cement and dust was flying around. Because 3/4 of our family has allergies and asthma, we knew we could not stay, so we asked the apartment people to put us up at a hotel and they refused. So, we had to stay at a hotel at our expense and we found a room up in Mount Charleston that was quite inexpensive and cheaper than 99% of the hotels in the Valley.
We finally got back to our apartment at 7:00 this evening and the apartment just stunk of wet cement and our daughter is sneezing up a storm and has a running nose. We could move our daughter's bed into her room, but that's it and so our living room is being used as storage for her belongings.
So, we figured that that the apartment complex and their management company broke our lease by providing uninhabitable housing for the week and refusing to reimburse us for any expenses we have incurred and for them stealing our electricity. We found a new place to live in Henderson and will be moving within a week.
And so, how was your week?

I Know How The Pirates Feel

The Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates today, 20-0.
The softball team I play on lost 34-5 the other night.
At least the Pirates get paid.

Packers Choose A Hawkeye OT Number 1 In Draft

The Green Bay Packers selected Iowa Hawkeye OT Bryan Bulaga as it's number 1 draft pick tonight. I was listening to ESPN Radio and the announcers were saying that it is a great draft pick and he will fit right in, going on the right side of the line. And after giving up 86 sacks the last two seasons, it seems like it was the right choice. In addition, ESPN interviewed him and Bulaga is very excited in coming to Green Bay, so it looks like a great fit.

CCSD Will Continue To Have Financial Problems For Years To Come

In the past two years or so, The Clark County School District has cut almost $400 million dollars from it's budget. That's not using fuzzy math like some government agencies use, that is an actual cut in funding. And it's going to get worse- much worse in the next several years. They are looking at additional cuts of $200-300 million in each of the next 2 years. That's a total of $400-600 million more dollars the District will have to cut.
So, what to do. First, the feds have to step up and pay school districts for the barely funded or unfunded mandates by the Feds. They are suppose to pay 2/3 of special education costs and they don't even come close. As a special education teacher, I know about the unfunded mandates and the barely funded mandates. In addition to Special Ed, we also have to fund illegal immigrants education. When money was good in the district, this not much of a problem, but now that money is tight, it becomes a huge issue. And when you combine Special Education and illegal immigrants, your costs go up significantly. For instance, if a student needs a specialized piece of equipment, like a wheelchair, assistive technology or special books, the district has to purchase it and getting reimburse from the Feds is impossible because they are illegals.
So, the Feds, including Harry, Dina, John, Dean and Shelly are responsible for this. Liberals say they are for education, but in reality, at the federal level, they really give local school districts the middle finger.
Well, since Harry and the rest are screwing Nevada taxpayers and that's not going to stop, so what else can the school districts do? CCSD is still full of fat, but soon most of the fat will be trimmed. Then what? Raising taxes is not the answer. That just takes money out of the economy and in Nevada, we need all the money in economy we can get. The district can cut more, but can the district cut up to $600 million from it's budget over 2 years?
Looking at Rory Reid's education plan, that's a non-starter. It's just fantasy land. And I don't think Jim Gibbon's plan of cutting budgets is not feasible as well.
So, what is the answer? It's possible that the district will have to close some schools. Schools like the schools in Mount Charleston, Goodsprings and some other schools in the valley. The district may have end the Magnet Schools program. Athletic programs may have to be cut. Class sizes will increase even more. Transportation cost will have to be cut, especially if gas prices continue to increase. Most schools will have to be shut in the summer so utility costs will go down. School custodians will have to be cut and work 10 months a year instead of year round. Proficiency exams will have to be dropped.
It's going to get bad in CCSD for years to come. It's going to be a rough ride and I hope Clark County will be able to handle the crisis.

Happy Earth Day

Happy Earth Day, one of those feel good "holidays". I was going to have a BBQ today but it is 48 frickin degrees at 3:00 in the afternoon. In Las Vegas, in the middle of a desert and it is raining and 48 out. It's warmer in Fairbanks, Alaska than in Las Vegas.
Here is a classic clip from George Carlin about Mother Earth. It's a classic and because it comes from George Carlin, there is some foul language.

Gibbons Named One Of The Worst Governors In the U.S.?

Gov. Jim Gibbons has been named one of the worst governors of the U.S. And Jim Doyle of Wisconsin is not on the list? http://www.lvrj.com/news/gibbons-named-on-list-of-worst-governors-91723774.html
While I am not a fan of Gibbons, he has gotten the state through tough economic times and he didn't use funky ways to solve the problem.
Gibbons and the Democrats who control the state Senate and Assembly managed to work out a deal to really reduce the cost of government. They didn't use gimmicks- they actually reduced the amount of spending. When you compare Wisconsin (my home state) and Nevada, you find out that that Nevada actually cuts costs while Wisconsin just plays with facts and figures and really doesn't balance the budget.
No, Jim Doyle needs to be on the list of worst governors and Gibbons needs to be removed. Doyle has made it impossible for business to come to Wisconsin while Gibbons has actually made NV. Nevada business friendly.

Global Warming: Phfttt!

For Thursday:
Las Vegas high temp: 57
Wisconsin Rapids high temp: 64
Global Warming: my big hairy butt.

Stupid Union News 1546- Union To City: Up Yours

From the LVRJ: "Las Vegas city officials should cut deeper into next year's budget, a move that might require additional layoffs, Mayor Oscar Goodman said Wednesday.
His directive followed news that members of the Las Vegas City Employees Association, by far the largest of the four city bargaining units, voted against giving wage concessions to the city...City Employees Association President Don King said it's his understanding that more layoffs are possible. The blame for the current situation, though, lies with the city, he said.
"There's very little, if any, trust right now in management," King said. "We don't know what to believe anymore. The rank and file are out there saying, 'The city doesn't care about us.' "
Almost 70 percent of his membership voted against wage concessions because there wasn't a guarantee that the reduction would save jobs, even though Goodman repeated for weeks that the only way to stop layoffs was for workers to agree to less pay.
"That's mixed signals," King said. "The city really needs to take a hard look at what it's doing.""
In reality, the old farts in the union said "screw those just hired, we want our money". Because of this, about 150 employees will lose their jobs. Of course, this means there will be about 150 fewer union employees paying union dues.
Again, it shows where the union stands on issues regarding theCity of Las Vegas. They just stuck up their middle finger and said screw you to the City.

Sometimes A Blind Squirrel Doesn't Get A Nut

Today, it was revealed that Senator John Ensign received a grand total of $50 in political contributions from 1 person. From the LVRJ: :Scandal-ridden Sen. John Ensign received only $50 from a single donor during the first three months of this year as the fallout from his extramarital affair continued to take a striking toll.
Robert Donald, a Las Vegas retiree, cut two $25 checks to Ensign on March 19, according to the latest campaign reports filed with the Senate." http://www.lvrj.com/news/ensign-reports--50-raised-in-first-quarter-91752854.html

$50 won't buy you much. It may fill up your SUV or maybe print 30 yard signs.
I hope Ensign takes this as message that he should not not run for re-election.

Happy Birthday To Jack Nicholson

Jack Nicholson was born in 1937 and for me, this was his best moment in acting.

The Race To Become The Las Vegas Sun's Village Idiot

There is a race at the Las Vegas Sun's headquarters to become the Village Idiot of the Sun. There is so much competition, it's hard to keep score.
First, there is Lisa Mascaro, who is the Washington DC. reporter for the Sun. She wouldn't know how to write a news article with facts, but she has to put her opinions in the article as well. And of course, being an ultra liberal, the facts become liberal talking points. She couldn't pass the Sesame Street School of Journalism the way she writes news(opinion) pieces.
Then you have Brian Greenspun. the editor of the Sun. He actually wrote an editorial complaining about all the hate in politics and then only mentioned conservatives. Apparently, in his very little mind, liberals never do anything bad. But since the Greenspun family owns the Sun, we are stuck reading the comedy filled editorials from Geenspun.
Next up in the competition for Village Idiot is Jon Ralston. This is the goof who has tried singlehandly to make the alleged Tea Party of Nevada candidate a legitimate contender for Harry Reid's seat. Unfortunately, for the Ralston and the Sun, little Johnny Ashjian is polling about the same as my hound dog or Michael Vick. But today, Ralston wrote this about the lawsuit between a crazed loon and Jim Gibbons and an alleged sexual assault: In a startling 72-page response to Gov. Jim Gibbons' attempt to have the case dismissed, Chrissy Mazzeo, through her lawyer, has rebutted the presumption that there is not enough evidence to proceed. The document is replete with facts, speculation and innuendo. It also asserts there is prima facie evidence that videotapes were altered;... http://www.lasvegassun.com/blogs/ralstons-flash/2010/apr/21/astonishing-doc-filed-case-vs-gov-gibbons-told-chr/ So, is Ralston a lawyer? I don't think so. But he presents this as fact. Is it his opinion? Maybe, but coherent thoughts by Ralston is an unusual event.
Further, the headline reads this: "Astonishing doc filed in case vs. gov: “Gibbons told Chrissy he was going to rape her, his plans were simply foiled.” Hmm, but in his report, he fails to mention this and he has you read a 65 page document to find it. Needless to say, Ralston is just being lazy. To say Ralston is a reporter is not accurate because he is not smart enough- a commentator? Lazy. Blogger? Hahaha
So, the race to become the Las Vegas Sun's Village Idiot continues. Who will win? Will the casinos put up odds? Can their be more one Village Idiot? The suspense is killing me.

Killer On death Row Since 1979 Loses Another Appeal

From the Las Vegas Sun: "A convicted killer once considered Nevada's most dangerous inmate lost his most recent appeal to the Nevada Supreme Court.
Patrick C. McKenna, 63, has been on death row since 1979 and is among the oldest Nevada prisoners awaiting death by lethal injection.
The Supreme Court today rejected his claims that his lawyer was ineffective during his trial for the 1979 murder of his cell mate, Jack Nobles. McKenna claimed his attorney failed to push for a jury clemency instruction and investigation of a potential defense witness.
McKenna has had three penalty hearings and each time the panel returned the death penalty.
According to prosecutors' version of the events, McKenna returned to the Clark County Jail on Jan. 6, 1979 angry about his conviction that day for raping two women in a downtown motel room.
McKenna played chess with Nobles and drank "pruno" -- an illicit jailhouse brew -- which made him angrier, according to a prosecutor. After Nobles lost the game, the prosecutor said, he took a swing at McKenna, who "exploded and attacked him."
Nobles eventually was choked to death." http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2010/apr/21/supreme-court-denies-killers-appeal-jailhouse-slay/

The reason 1979 stands out for me is that is when I graduated from high school at Oconomowoc H.S.. In that time from then until now. I graduated from college, worked for a year, did a tour in the Air Force, worked in North Dakota and Montana came home to Wisconsin, worked for a few years, went to college, graduated in 1997, worked in MPS, then at Westfield, WI. and then moved out to Las Vegas and have been here 4 years or so. And this thuggish creep is still alive, awaiting execution.
Get the appeals done and kill the guy. He is wasting space and contributing to global warming every time he breathes, farts or poops. As Larry the Cable guy says "Git R Done"!

Barack Hussein Obama: Worst President Ever

From Yahoo News: President Barack Obama suggested Wednesday that a new value-added tax on Americans is still on the table, seeming to show more openness to the idea than his aides have expressed in recent days.
Before deciding what revenue options are best for dealing with the deficit and the economy, Obama said in an interview with CNBC, "I want to get a better picture of what our options are."...When asked if he could see a potential VAT in this nation, the president said: "I know that there's been a lot of talk around town lately about the value-added tax. That is something that has worked for some countries. It's something that would be novel for the United States."
"And before, you know, I start saying 'this makes sense or that makes sense,' I want to get a better picture of what our options are," Obama said. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100421/ap_on_bi_ge/us_obama_tax

Obama just threw a bunch of advisers under the bus after they had denied that the Value Added Tax was on the table.
To even consider shows how clueless Obama is. He doesn't understand that most Americans are tired of the crap that goes on in DC.
And if he proposes this, he just broke his promise about raising taxes on people below $250,000. But then promises by this joker in chief really doesn't mean anything.
President Barack Hussein Obama: Worst President EVER!!!

Are You Man Or Woman Enough For This Ride?

From the Las Vegas Sun: The first step is always the hardest — especially when it’s from 855 feet up.
With their toes dangling over the edge and the Las Vegas Strip staring up at them, thrill-seekers took the first jumps from the top of the
Stratosphere's newest attraction, the SkyJump.
Some jumpers screamed all 855 feet, but others were unfazed by the free fall, like 75-year-old Ruby Malalay.
“I don’t get nervous for very much,” Malalay said confidently after her jump.

While this ride is exciting, it's not a jump I will ever do..
Before heading up to the 108th floor of the Stratosphere Tower, the jumper is suited up in a jump suit and harness. They’re taken up to the tower, in what might be the longest elevator ride of their lives only to come back down a few minutes later.
The jumper is checked multiple times by safety professionals before being led to the edge of the platform. It isn’t until they are on the platform — 855 feet above the landing spot — that they are hooked to a cable attached to a “descender machine.”
The machine lets out the cable as the jumper steps off the platform, controlling the speed at 40 mph. Just before hitting the landing pad, the jumper is slowed down for a controlled landing.
“It’s really not about the speed. The speed is actually nice because you get a chance to look around but you still feel like you are falling,” American Casino and Entertainment Properties President Frank Riolo said. Pawn Stars + Commercial Review 4-19-2010

Surprisingly, there was no news in the papers this week about the Pawn Stars. I found a good link to Rick's Restoration: http://ricksrestorations.ning.com/
The first guy brought in an antique coffee grinder. The grinder was found in Los Angeles. The guy wanted $500 but Rick offered $200. And it went for $200. The grinder was sent to Rick's Restoration and they painted it reddish brown. The cost for the restoration was $350 and it can sell for $1800-2500.
The next lady brought in a 1967 Rat Patrol lunch box. It seems collectors are buy old lunch boxes now. Rick offered $20 and the lady decided to keep it.
The next guy brought in an antique Indian statue. The guy wanted $900 and the Old Man offered $400 and did not budge from that figure. It sold for $400. While Corey and Chumlee were lugging to the back room, they were out of shape and so Rick challenged them to an obstacle race in the parking lot after making a pitch for Subway.
The next guy brought in a private film footage of FDR. The seller was quite knowledgeable of the film and how he got it. They showed the film in the backroom. The guy wanted $90,000. Rick decided to pass because it was a priceless item.
During the obstacle course, I noticed the Old Man with a cane. I've never seen it when I visited the shop. Corey won but it looked like a couple beluga whales out of water running and then Rick made another commercial for Subway.
The second episode was last seen on 2-1-2010 http://lasvegasbadger.blogspot.com/2010/02/pawn-stars-revie-2-1-2010.htm

More Stupid Union News

From the Wausau Daily Herald: As a labor strike neared its fourth week at Merrill Manufacturing Corp., Steve Shew of Oshkosh joined about 50 workers and leaders from other unions walking the picket line today in a show of solidarity outside the factory....The plant, founded in 1916, operated at full capacity Monday with replacement workers, Taylor said. He declined comment on how many had been hired. http://www.wausaudailyherald.com/article/20100419/WDH0101/100419113/Striking-Merrill-workers-rally-together-over-labor-contract
So, a union goes on strike, the company calls it's bluff and now the union members are not working.
Apparently, the union, the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, United Lodge 2362, apparently doesn't understand that there is high unemployment. Unemployment so high that people are willing to be replacement workers and that the strikers, will have a very difficult time to find another job.
Unions have killed so many jobs and they are not smart enough to know it.

Last Surviving Munchkin Passes Away

From the jsonline: Meinhardt Raabe, who portrayed the Munchkin coroner in the "Wizard of Oz," will be buried Tuesday morning near his hometown in Jefferson County.
The public is welcome to attend the visitation for Raabe, starting at 10 a.m., in Immanuel Lutheran Church in Farmington, on County Highway B, three miles east of Johnson Creek. A funeral service will begin at 11.
Small in stature, at 4 feet 7 inches tall, Raabe parlayed his role in the 1939 film into a lifelong adventure. He appeared at Wizard of Oz festivals around the country and joined the remaining Munchkins when they were honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, in Los Angeles.
Raabe was believed to be the last surviving Munchkin, the group of little people who gathered to celebrate the death of the Wicked Witch. In his role, Raabe made the official declaration: "As coroner, I thoroughly examined her. And she's not only merely dead, she's really most sincerely dead."
The movie, however, was just one part of his life. Raabe worked for 30 years as a spokesman for the Oscar Mayer Co., became a licensed pilot and served in the Civil Air Patrol http://www.jsonline.com/news/wisconsin/91555974.html

One piece of triva: Where was the primire of the "Wizard of OZ"? Answer: Oconomowoc, WI.

Seventy years after "The Wizard of Oz" first premiered at the old Strand Theatre in downtown Oconomowoc, that milestone will be honored with a special showing of the perennial favorite...According to information from Warner Brothers, the movie premiered here on Aug. 12, 1939, which is considered the official anniversary date. The movie had a Hollywood premiere three days later, on Aug. 15, at Grauman's Chinese Theater. http://www.livinglakecountry.com/oconomowocfocus/news/48775462.html

One more piece of worthless trivia: When I was in middle school, I was in a Wizard of Oz play. We played at the local elementary school in Wauwatosa and I played the part of a flying monkey. Apparently, they didn't like my singing abilities because when the troupe sang some of the songs, I was told to be quiet.

Gee, Now They Tell Us

From The Las Vegas Sun: "University Medical Center and other public hospitals that serve the uninsured could wind up financially pummeled by the new national health insurance law.
Come 2014, when the law takes full effect, Clark County will begin losing millions of dollars in federal matching funds officially known as Medicaid disproportionate share payments. Those payments help UMC defray the cost of providing care to indigent citizens or undocumented residents who aren’t insured.
Lawmakers in Washington told public hospitals the federal government needs to divert the payments to finance other provisions of the insurance reform legislation, including expansion of eligibility for Medicaid, UMC CEO Kathy Silver says."...“The association supported the health reform legislation because we felt it was important for people to have coverage,” Fagnani says. “But we are cautiously concerned about whether the disproportionate share of dollars will still be needed.”
UMC spokesman Rick Plummer counters that his hospital believes it will lose a lot more in federal funding than the association
projects.
“The cuts may hit UMC harder because of the high number of Medicaid patients UMC treats,” he says.
UMC has reason to be more concerned than other public hospitals. It is projected to run as much as $74 million in the red this year, so it can ill afford to take another severe financial hit.

Of course the hospital knew this before the vote and Sun most assuredly did to. Conservatives have been saying this loud and clear but was ignored by the MSM.
So, why did UMC not mention this before the health care vote? That's quite easy to answer. The hospital is run by Clark County and the County Commissioners are in charge of the hospital. Who are the Commissioners? Why, they are all Democrats and who is the head of the Commission? Why, it's Rory Reid, son of Harry Reid. And why didn't the Sun publish this information before the vote on the OLbama, Reid and Pelosi health care bill? Because they are pipe organ of the local Democrats and especially Rory and Harry Reid. When the Reid's ask the Sun to jump, the Suns asks how high.
So, now we are seeing the damage the health care bill will cause. Can we conservatives say "we told you so?"

Woman Sentenced To Life In Prison For Allowing Boy To Touch Her Breasts

From the Elko Daily Free Pass: "A Twin Falls woman convicted of forcing a 13-year-old boy to touch her breasts was sentenced Monday to life in prison.Michelle Taylor was convicted of lewdness with a minor under 14 in November after a week-long trial in District Judge Mike Memeo’s courtroom. With the conviction, Taylor faced a mandatory life sentence, and Memeo set parole eligibility after 10 years, the minimum sentence. If released on parole she must register as a sex offender and will be under lifetime supervision."..."Taylor, who lived in Jackpot at the time of the crime, kissed a friend’s child, forced him to touch her breast and asked him to have sex with her in February 2008.Taylor claimed she was intoxicated and does not remember what happened that night. She told jurors she roughhoused with the boy, but did not force him to touch her inappropriately." http://www.elkodaily.com/articles/2010/04/13/news/local_news/doc4bc49cfc5ee07411983696.txt
Seems like the sentence is a little extreme and the punishment did not fit the crime. She can get out in 10 years, maybe.
But the law is the law and the judge's hands were tied. And to be honest, the DA might have overcharged. Even the judge thought so: After he sentenced her, Memeo said he was bound by state statute to impose the life sentence, but said he is not sure why the prosecution chose to charge her under that statute."

10-life years for allowing a boy to touch her breast . Shoot, people get less for drunken driving and killing someone.
Hopefully, this lady will be able to serve less time than the 10 years, but if not, she only can blame herself for getting into this position in the first place.

The Answer is: $2.12

The Question: What was the price of gas 1 year ago? The answer is @$2.12 a gallon. http://www.vegasgasprices.com/
High gas prices will continue to hurt the economy and it will the poor the hardest.
Does Reid, Obama or Pelosi care? Of course not. Obama has essentially said that he likes $4 a gallon of gas.
So, get used to the high gas prices and in with it a slower recovery of the economy and continued high unemployment.

Global Warming: Nevadans Are Not As Dumb As You Think

From the LVRJ: "Nevadans are cool to the idea the planet is getting warmer and to a proposed government fix, according to a new poll.
Fifty-five percent of respondents believe global warming is "unproven and subject to debate," compared with 35 percent who consider it "a scientifically established reality," according to the poll by Mason-Dixon Polling & Research. The percentage of skeptics is up 11 points from a similar survey in 2008. Although public sentiment doesn't melt glaciers or evaporate Colorado River water, it does affect the way Nevadans view legislation aimed at reducing the rate of planetary warming. Fifty-five percent of respondents oppose legislation to restrict carbon gas emissions, while 37 percent support it."

Ok, so you say that it's just a bunch of conservatives who rigged the poll. Umm, no: The poll commissioned by the Review-Journal included responses from 625 registered Nevada voters, 44 percent of them Democrats, 38 percent Republicans and 18 percent independents. The poll, conducted Tuesday and Wednesday, has a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.
So, in the poll, you have Democrats as the biggest group of those polled and obviously not all Democrats believe in global warming.
So, how does this relate to politics. Well, Harry Reid is a huge proponent of global warming and green jobs. "We have an opportunity to create good paying Nevada jobs and protect our state's outdoors by creating new clean energy industries," said Jon Summers, a spokesman for Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev."

Once again, it shows that Harry Reid is out of touch with the majority of Nevadans and this will hurt him even more in his upcoming election.
This also shows that more and more people are coming to their senses and beginning to realize that global warming is a farce and fraud. More and more people are asking questions and are not believing what Al Gore and others are saying. And that is a good thing.

Something Funny

From a colleague:

Ever wonder in your relationship, how 'the fight' started:

One year, a husband decided to buy his mother-in-law a cemetery plot as a
Christmas gift.
The next year, he didn't buy her a gift.
When she asked him why, he replied, "Well, you still haven't used the gift I bought you last year!"
And that's how the fight started.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
My wife and I are watching Who Wants To Be A Millionaire while we were in
bed.
I turned to her and said, 'Do you want to have Sex?'
'No,' she answered.
I then said, 'Is that your final answer?'
She didn't even look at me this time, simply saying, 'Yes.'
So I said, 'Then I'd like to phone a friend.'
And that's when the fight started.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
I took my wife to a restaurant. The waiter, for some reason, took my order first.
'I'll have the strip steak, medium rare, please.'
He said, 'Aren't you worried about the mad cow?'
'Nah, she can order for herself.'
And that's when the fight started.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
My wife sat down on the couch next to me as I was flipping the channels.
She asked, 'What's on TV?'
I said, 'Dust.'
And then the fight started.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
My wife was hinting about what she wanted for our upcoming anniversary.
She said, 'I want something shiny that goes from 0 to 200 in about 3 seconds.'
I bought her a scale.
And then the fight started.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
My wife and I were sitting at a table at her high school reunion, and she
kept staring at a drunken man swigging his drink as he sat alone at a nearby table.
I asked her, 'Do you know him?'
'Yes,' she sighed, 'He's my old boyfriend. I understand he took to drinking right after we split up those many years ago, and I hear he hasn't been sober since.'
'My God!' I said, 'Who would think a person could go on celebrating that long?'
And then the fight started...
---------------------------------------------------------------------
I rear-ended a car this morning. So, there we were alongside the road and
slowly the other driver got out of his car. You know how sometimes you just get soooo stressed and little things just seem funny? Yeah, well I couldn't believe it; he was a DWARF!!!
He stormed over to my car, looked up at me, and shouted, 'I AM NOT HAPPY!'
So, I looked down at him and said, 'Well, then which one are you?'
And then the fight started.

True Firefighting Heroes

At a time when Las Vegas area firefighters are under fire for their perceived greed, Firehouse Magazine (firehouse.com) presents their Heroism Awards. It's a great read and shows the dangers of being a firefighter.
For instance: Czech, of FDNY Ladder 142, was among those recently selected by Firehouse Magazine for the 2009 Heroism Awards for his actions.
His crew was first-due for the three-story, multiple-unit dwelling. Fire was venting out the back, heavy smoke was venting out the front and they knew there were possibly people trapped. Czech was in the O.V. position (outside vent.)
"I started making my way to the rear when someone grabbed me and said they saw kids in the third floor window," he said.
Czech assisted Firefighter Ed Rissland, who was acting as chauffeur, in setting up the tower ladder and they rode the bucket to the window. As they forced through child guard gates they heard a radio transmission that the heavy fire from the rear was moving toward the front of the second floor, and a second handline was needed. By now, fire was venting from the windows directly below the bucket, and they knew they had little time.
Both entered the building. "It was dumb luck I was on the side of the bucket to go first into the window," Czech said. They encountered black smoke and high heat, but Czech had gone less than five feet before he found a six-year-old boy on a bed. On a bed across room they found a 10-year-old boy, and brought them back to the window. Czech handed them to Rissland in the bucket and continued searching.
Next Czech found the mother in the hallway outside the bedroom, dragged her to the window, and the two got her into the bucket. Czech said they initially thought the small mother was another child. "She had closed the door to the bedroom – if she hadn't done that, I don't know if they would be here," he said.
Rissland took the three apparently lifeless victims down and then rejoined Czech to keep searching, as by this time conditions had started to improve.
They head the next day that the kids were ok, and heard the day after that the mother was ok.
